BLACKWATER TARGET SYSTEMS UNVEILS NEXT GENERATION INDOOR FIREARMS TRAINING RANGE

New innovation in indoor firearms training range permits law enforcement and military professionals to train virtually anywhere.

Camden County, NC October 4, 2006 – Blackwater announce the release of its new Talon Range. The Talon Range was created to provide a cost-effective and timely solution for those who have little space available to conduct firearms training, qualification, weapons function testing, and more. Designed, developed and tested over the last 18 months at Blackwater Training Center by ballistics expert Jim Dehart and the world-class firearms instructors at Blackwater, the Talon is a fully modular, portable and completely self-contained indoor range. Constructed of dual cargo containers and an advanced environmental control system, the Talon offers shooters a safe and climate-controlled range available anytime, anywhere.

To eliminate issues with lead exposure, the Talon utilizes the state-of-the-art "Bear Trap" containment system. The Bear Trap utilizes granular rubber to keep bullets in tact upon impact, thus reducing lead contamination within the system and facilitating easy cleaning. In conjunction with this, an industrial air exchange system reduces interior air volume at each shooting station while also capturing airborne lead contaminant within the impact area. This design pulls airborne lead contamination away from the shooters while also maintaining the desired temperature, so that environmental conditions can be modified as necessary.

The Talon is our innovative way of giving police forces their own training facility without having to continually worry about encroachment and environmental issues within the communities they protect.

The Talon also dampens the sound created by gunfire. This is done by installing special purpose acoustic material in the interior of the shooter station. This sound-absorbent material helps to ensure that the Talon can be used nearly anywhere at anytime without disturbing others in the nearby vicinity, thus overcoming one component of the encroachment issue faced by so many ranges today.

“Blackwater trains thousands of police officers each year, and every year we have more and more tell us about the encroachment issues they are facing on their home ranges," states Blackwater President Gary Jackson. "The Talon is our innovative way of giving police forces their own training facility without having to continually worry about encroachment and environmental issues within the communities they protect.”

The Talon’s modular design and small footprint give it the flexibility to be assembled and utilized just about anywhere; and each Talon station meets all DOT regulations for use on unrestricted roads so that transportation of system is relatively easy. For police forces, especially those in growing urban and suburban areas, this solution allows them to have a highly cost effective indoor range of their own, without having to pursue a lengthy real estate search, permit acquisition and building process. This solution will also save them countless budget dollars from no longer wasting hours and overtime transporting themselves to and from a distant range on a tight and often inflexible schedule.
