FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 19, 2007
BLACKWATER DISPELS PUBLIC MISINFORMATION THAT
IT IS "SUING THE FAMILIES" OF ITS FALLEN
COLLEAGUES
Moyock, NC - Contrary to a recent press release
by California plaintiff lawyers Dan Callahan and
Marc Miles, Blackwater USA is not "suing
the families" of four Blackwater contractors
murdered by insurgents in Fallujah, Iraq, on March
31, 2004.
A recent press release issued by Callahan and
Miles makes the false claim that Blackwater is
"suing the families." Blackwater has
never sued the families of the four contractors
killed in Fallujah, and seeks nothing from the
families.
Blackwater is seeking in arbitration to enforce
its contracts with the four deceased men. The
respondent in that arbitration is a North Carolina
lawyer who represents the "ancillary estates"
of the four deceased men. Those estates were established
by the North Carolina lawyer for only one purpose:
to sue Blackwater. The four brave men who died
in Fallujah well understood the grave risk faced
on a daily basis in Iraq. In their contracts with
Blackwater, these men had promised, among other
things, not to sue Blackwater.
"Hopefully, this press release will lay
to rest the misinformation published recently
by the trial attorneys who sued Blackwater, and
who falsely claim that Blackwater is 'suing the
families.' The so-called family defense fund announced
recently was not set up for the families,"
said Blackwater President Gary Jackson, "but
was set up by and for the trial lawyers."
