RED CROSS - BLACKWATER FUNDRAISER AND SILENT AUCTION A HUGE SUCCESS!
The American Red Cross and Blackwater USA co-sponsored a Gulf Region Relief fundraiser and silent auction at the Sheraton Oceanfront Hotel this past Friday night (Nov. 18) and raised over $138,000.00! Most of the money was raised was through corporate and individual sponsorships for the dinner, but last-minute silent auction bids on domestic and overseas trips, paintings, and many other items added to the total.
Ambassador L. Paul Bremer, former Presidential Envoy to Iraq was the keynote speaker. His remarks were timely and poignant and earned him a standing ovation. Amb. Bremer's new book, "My Year In Iraq: The Struggle to Build a Future of Hope" will be in bookstores everywhere on January 10, 2006.
Gary Jackson, Blackwater's president said, "Tonight was a success because it was about Americans helping Americans. The people who came out this evening demonstrated a kindness and compassion that exemplifies all that is good about the American spirit. Our great employees and our special relationship with Amb. Bremer and the Red Cross made it possible to pull off this event in about four weeks. Kudos to all of them."
The struggle to fulfill relief needs continues. Please contact your local American Red Cross office to find out how you can further help.
