The New International Headquarters of Blackwater Opens in North Carolina

This WAR is for REAL!

To get out of a difficulty, one usually must go through it. Our country is now facing the most serious threat to its existence, as we know it, that we have faced in your lifetime and mine (which includes WWII).
The deadly seriousness is greatly compounded by the fact that there are very few of us who think we can possibly lose this war and even fewer who realize what losing really means.

QUOTES OF THE WEEK

"There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo. Please use in that order."
--Ed Howdershelt (Author)

"Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except all those others that have been tried from time to time."
Winston Churchill

The Roots of Democracy

Hailed as the key to the solution of poverty, corruption, bad governance and, last but not least, terrorism, spreading democracy around the globe has become the centerpiece of U.S. foreign policy since 9/11. Unfortunately, however, this enterprise is at risk because most of our policymakers have a poor understanding of the economic and institutional landscape that is most favorable to the extension of political liberties and free elections.
The experience of the past two years in Iraq shows that simply removing the old governing elite and holding elections is unlikely to suffice to establish a peaceful democracy. On the other hand, realizing that political freedom will not happen at a snap of our fingers should not draw us into holding a fatalistic, and equally mistaken, view that democracy is impossible in that region of the world. There does not seem to be anything inherent in Islam or even Arab culture that blocks the introduction of free elections in the Middle East. It is worth remembering that not many years ago Catholicism was (wrongly) believed to thwart liberal institutions in Southern Europe and Latin America.

What If There Were an International IRS?

Frank J. Gaffney, Jr
While American leaders have been preoccupied with sectarian strife in Iraq, the rising threat from Iran, the controversy over having the United Arab Emirates run U.S. port facilities, and plummeting public confidence in both parties, another ominous danger has been gathering: international schemes for “innovative sources of financing” — a euphemism for global taxes.
Unless prompt action is taken by Washington, it is a safe bet that such initiatives will become a widely employed means of imposing burdensome levies on American citizens and businesses. “Globotaxes” will enable the United Nations to fund activities, operations, and priorities — including, in all likelihood, many our government and taxpayers would otherwise oppose.

Marshals fear recruits from TSA lack law enforcement experience

The Transportation Security Administration is looking to its own employees to find new air marshals — and some veteran marshals are not pleased.
Marshals told Federal Times they are concerned that TSA’s push to replenish their ranks means airplanes and passengers will have unqualified people with no prior law enforcement experience protecting them against terrorist hijackings and other disturbances.

American ISP Helps Spread Bin Ladin's Message

A radical Islamic web site apparently housed on an American- based Internet Service Provider has been offering links to downloads of the recent speech made by Osama bin Laden and broadcast on Al- Jazeera television. Some of the Internet addresses on the Jaami jihadist forum available to download that audio tape are available at www.jaami.com/vb/showthread.php?p=6752. They include links to the Al Jazeera web site housing the tape, as well as media commentary on the tape. The site's Internet Service Provider is apparently the Inktomi Corporation, acquired by Yahoo in late 2002 (http://docs.yahoo.com/docs/pr/release1050.html).
Numerous radical Islamic Internet groups are also hosted by Yahoo. They include alqaedacellusarecruiters, alqaedanetwork, alqaida, New_Al-Qaeda, Jehadwithtalha, radicaltroops_amrulloh, alqaedamediafront, islamic_resistance, jihad_lover, jihadtimes, join_jihad, jihad, jehadinislam, TedJo_bifisa, mohsheirgroup and JundAllah.

Elite Troops Get Expanded Role on Intelligence

The military is placing small teams of Special Operations troops in a growing number of American embassies to gather intelligence on terrorists in unstable parts of the world and to prepare for potential missions to disrupt, capture or kill them.
Senior Pentagon officials and military officers say the effort is part of Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld’s two-year drive to give the military a more active intelligence role in the campaign against terrorism. But it has drawn opposition from traditional intelligence agencies like the C.I.A., where some officials have viewed it as a provocative expansion into what has been their turf.

FRANKS REVIEW

Service Equipment Review:

Neil Roberts Warrior Knife A Year Later

In August of 2004, at the request of "Chief" Steven C. Bronson, I wrote a review of the Neil Roberts Warrior Knife - and I did so without abusing the knife as I usually do. I did that - and said that was what I was doing right in the review - because the only knives I had to test were the prototype and knife #1 which was the property of Neil's widow, Patty. I wasn't about to abuse either of those blades. At Bronson / TWO's 90MPH With My Hair On Fire Counter-Terrorism Conference last August ('05) I met Chris Reeve, the maker of the Neil Roberts knife. As a result of a raffle, I won one of the production knives. At that point I had a knife that I could use and abuse and not feel like I was committing a crime - so the abuse began.

Recreational Equipment Review:

N-Range Home Shooting System

So, you DON'T own enough acreage to have your own pistol or rifle range. So you DON'T live next door to a range that will let you shoot for free. Are you one of those people who would happily shoot every day if you could? How about if you could do it safely in your basement or garage? (and I'm not talking about AirSoft). On the last day of SHOT Show, walking through the tent setup outside to hold the spill-over exhibitors, I found a booth for N-Range. It was Sunday morning and a lot of folks were grumpy. It had been a long week for exhibitors. But the woman working the N-Range booth was smiling and looking wide-awake (neither of those statements applied to me), and the system looked interesting so I wandered over. What I found was a simply conversion you can make to your handgun OR LONG GUN, that allows you to shoot safely in restricted ranges and without the mandate for ear protection.

CHAPLAINS CORNER

THINKING...
Such a simple process... but dangerous when not controlled with the discipline to
dictate its direction and subject matter.  The thought process must be filtered
through a trained, disciplined conscious mind.  Achieving this important level of life
is missed by all too many people.

One of the statements that I picked up in my years of study was very simple, but
greatly powerful... "I can't keep the birds from flying over my head, but I don't have
to let them nest in my hair."... or I may not be able to keep the thoughts from coming
into my conscious mind... but I do not have to let them stay and lead me into and
through a course of thinking in which I do not want to engage.

In my years of training others this has been the most difficult premise to get across
to students.  It is also one of the most difficult to get across to people in counseling
about problems.

In firearms training we must learn two things if we are to be successful in use of
firearms proficiently... control of breathing... and control of thinking called
concentration.  When these are mastered then practice brings proficiency.
