Why No Nukes for Iran?

How many times have we heard the following whining and yet received no specific answers from our leaders?
"Israel has nuclear weapons, so why single out Iran?"
"Pakistan got nukes and we lived with it."
"Who is to say the United States or Russia should have the bomb and not other countries?"
"Iran has promised to use its reactors for peaceful purposes, so why demonize the regime?"
In fact, the United States has a perfectly sound rationale for singling out Iran to halt its nuclear proliferation. At least six good reasons come to mind, not counting the more obvious objection over Iran's violation of U.N. non-proliferation protocols. It is past time that we spell them out to the world at large.

International Special Events

By JAMES A. MCGEE, M.S.
The Summer Olympic Games ceremoniously concluded on August 29, 2004, in the heart of Athens, Greece. The culmination of the event was celebrated as testimony to peace and world unity. In retrospect, what factors were employed to ensure a safe and secure athletic contest? This question requires a close examination of the measures taken to address an international special event.1 It also reveals the necessity to begin security preparations early, well before the occurrence, allowing adequate time to address potential training requirements, exercise emergency response capabilities, and implement appropriate corrective actions. Multiagency and multinational cooperation, coordination, and communication are critically important pieces of the security equation.

Patrol Rifle: Suppress or Not to Suppress - That is the question

By Carl R. Hospedales
I write this article not to preach, but to generate logical discussion on the use of suppressors within the Law Enforcement family. What is a Suppressor? A Suppressor also known as a Silencer, Low Signature System or "Can", are automatically thought of as equipment of Spies and Special Forces. As equipment of the “elite”, Suppressors are used to eliminate 2 of the 3 items that generate sound when a firearm is discharged;
1. Muzzle Blast (Hot gases propellant exiting the barrel)
2. Sonic Crack (As the round passes the transonic speed, approx 1120 ft/sec)
3. Cycle action of a firearm (Physical movement of the slide, bolt carrier, etc)
In truth suppressors/silencers aren’t silent, they only reduce the level of sound produced by approximately 30dB (Decibels), subject to suppressor design.

    BREAKING NEWS FOR THE PROFESSIONAL

Yet Another Agency in Charge of Domestic Intelligence?

It took me a half dozen e-mails and telephone calls over three days to just to confirm that yes, the Directorate of National Intelligence, or DNI, the new-ish uber-spooks body — has opened an office to deal with state and local law enforcement.
And it took me a few more inquiries before the DNI gave up the name of its head, Michael Tiffany, though nothing more.
Mind you, this is not classified information. Forget about denying public information to a pesky reporter: State and local cops have to know who’s in charge of state and local law enforcement issues, right?

Daley wants security cameras at bars

Surveillance cameras — aimed at government buildings, train platforms and intersections here — might soon be required at corner taverns and swanky nightclubs.
Mayor Richard Daley wants to require bars open until 4 a.m. to install security cameras that can identify people entering and leaving the building. Other businesses open longer than 12 hours a day, including convenience stores, eventually would have to do the same.

Chertoff says Dubai port deal includes safeguards

The homeland security chief said on Sunday a deal for a Dubai-based company to manage major U.S. ports would include security safeguards, but a Republican senator urged a probe and called the Bush administration "tone deaf politically" for approving it. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said the Bush administration had approved the sale of British firm P&O, which manages six U.S. ports including New York, to Dubai Ports World after a classified review and the deal would include safeguards to protect U.S. national security.

U.S. Military: 'Copter Crashes Kill 10

The U.S. military confirmed Sunday that 10 U.S. troops died when two transport helicopters crashed into the sea last week off the coast of the African nation of Djibouti. The CH-53E choppers, carrying a dozen crew and troops from a U.S. counterterrorism force, went down Friday in the Gulf of Aden, near the northern coastal town of Ras Siyyan. Two crew members were rescued.

Muslims Assault U.S. Embassy in Indonesia

Hundreds of Muslims protesting caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad tried to storm the U.S. Embassy on Sunday, smashing the windows of a guard post but failing to push through the gates. Several people were injured. Pakistani security forces, meanwhile, sealed off the capital of Islamabad to block a planned mass demonstration and fired tear gas and gunshots to chase off protesters. In Turkey, tens of thousands gathered in Istanbul chanting slogans against Denmark, Israel and the United States.

Nigeria Militants Threaten to Hit Tankers

Militants who seized nine foreign oil workers in a string of attacks across Nigeria's troubled delta region threatened Sunday to step up assaults by firing rockets at international oil tankers.
The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, which claims to be fighting for a greater local share of Nigeria's oil wealth, claimed responsibility Saturday for a series of raids, including one in which militants abducted three Americans, two Egyptians, two Thais, one Briton and one Filipino. The violence cut the West African nation's crude oil exports by 20 percent.

Danish ambassador exits Pakistan after riots

Denmark said on Sunday that its ambassador in Pakistan had temporarily returned home because he could not work after violent protests over cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad first published in the Nordic country.
The Foreign Ministry said that Danes in Pakistan who need help should apply to the German embassy.

Suicide Attacks on NATO Escalating in Afghanistan

As NATO troops replace U.S. forces on southern Afghanistan's battlefields, insurgents are waging a suicide bombing campaign that appears aimed at shaking the alliance's public support in Europe and Canada. Four years after the Taliban regime was toppled, the test of wills threatens to set back the U.S.-led war on terrorism in Afghanistan, American and Afghan analysts say.Suicide bombings were rare in Afghanistan until last fall, when the North Atlantic Treaty Organization began debating a move into southern Afghanistan.

    FRANKS REVIEW

    Service Equipment Review:

    SHOT Show ’06!!

The 2006 SHOT Show was bigger than ever, and all of the major manufacturers took great advantage of it to introduce their new and improved product lines. This year we forced ourselves (yeah, right) to walk as much of the floor in every section that we could. That said, here's a few facts about the Show: Preliminary records indicate that more than 39,000 people attended, with more than 1,300 of them being members of the press; 1,846 companies booked exhibit space; there was 616,300 square feet of exhibit space; over 4 million pounds of display materials and products. We did our best to see it all and you can find it right here!! Just as we did last year, we broke down our reviews into segments, and each segment has its own page. This year we replaced one segment (Odds and Ends replaced Support) so we have a total of ten pages of reviews.

    Recreational Equipment Review:

    SHOT Show ’06!! (Yes, More)

I find it humorous that a shot originally aimed at "Shooting, Hunting & Outdoor" activities has so largely turned into a show aimed at military and law enforcement personnel. I realize there is a huge crossover, but looking at the floorplan for the Show, if you take out the "Firearms" chunk of floor space, what's left over is about equal between Outdoor and Mil/LE. Given my background in military and law enforcement, it's natural for me to stick to that zone. However, I did make sure that I walked the Outdoor section as well (and some of the best Mil/LE product manufacturers were located there on purpose). It may expand next year, but for this year Borelli Consulting has six pages of reviews on the Recreational Outdoor side: Camping, Clothing, Firearms, Knives/Tools, Lights, and Odds & Ends.
