On September 11, 2001 our lives as Americans were changed; our husbands, brothers, sons, friends and neighbors were called to service.  My husband and the majority of men in his unit left the active duty military to spend more time at home, pursue civilian careers, and educational goals. They couldn’t completely give up the brotherhood which they came from, Special Forces, so they joined the National Guard. Prior to 9/11 they continued to go overseas in support of U.S. goals and objectives, but it was a means of getting out of the house and staying connected to the brotherhood to which they belonged.

My husband and his men belong to a special group of Americans; they believe in what  makes this country great, they believe in self-sacrifice, they believe the country is more important then themselves. They represent the very best of our community. They have put their careers and goals on hold because they believe that what we as Americans hold dear has been assaulted, so they continue to volunteer for additional trips overseas. Two of the men in this unit have paid the ultimate price with their lives, defending the values which we all believe in.

These men are your neighbors, they come and go with little notice and fanfare. They continue to serve in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Philippines willingly, because this is what has been asked of them. They do this because they believe in us and know that we are 100% behind them.

In December we are going to recognize these men; our friends, neighbors, sons, brothers and husbands. Specifically we are going to recognize the wives of CW2 Shephard and MSG Carter and the sacrifice which they have made. It is my husband’s wish to say thank you to the men under his command and more importantly, I think, to their families. To accomplish his wish the members of the family support group are leading a fundraiser to support the unit. Please help us make this a great experience for our military families who have sacrificed so much.

Any assistance on your part to help us realize this goal would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
