A branch of the U.S. Marine Corp has provided American troops with "Iraq Culture Smart Cards"
to help soldiers who interact with Iraqis. Examples: Don't use left hand for contact with others,
eating or hand gestures - it is considered unclean. Don't point with a finger - it is a sign of
contempt.
Iraq has a massive amount of crude oil... but they do not have enough active refineries... so
they have to import gasoline. (Oil, Oil everywhere... and very little gas for automobiles)

</><>...On The Lighter Side...</><></>
Toronto Globe & Mail, March 30, 2004: In most of the Canadian
Provinces, there is a policy of checking on any stalled vehicle
on the highway when the temperatures drop in the single digits
or below. One morning in March 2004 about 3AM RCMP Constable
Bill Wisen was awakened to respond to such a call of a car off
the shoulder on the Trans Canada Highway outside of Medicine
Hat, Alberta. Constable Wisen located the car still running,
stuck in deep snow alongside the highway. Pulling in behind it
with his emergency lights on, Constable Wisen walked to the
driver's door to find an older man passed out behind the wheel
and a near empty bottle of vodka in the seat. He tapped on the
window and the driver woke up, seeing the rotating lights in
his rear view mirror and the RCMP Constable standing next to
his car. The man panicked, and he jerked the gearshift into
drive and hit the gas. The car's speedometer was showing 20-30-
40 then 50 KPH, but its still stuck in the snow.
Constable Wisen , having a sense of humor, began running in
place next to the speeding but still stationary car. The driver
was totally freaked thinking the officer is actually keeping up
with him. This goes on for about 20 seconds when Constable
Wisen yelled at the man ordering him to "pull over". This man
obeyed and turned his wheel and stopped the engine. Once out of
the car the drunken driver asked about the RCMPs' special
training and just how can the Constable run 50 KPH. The man,
Mr. Robert Duport of Medicine Hat was arrested still believing
that an RCMP Constable had outrun his car.

THIS HAS BEEN A WEEK of many things occupying my thoughts;
One day we experienced weather that could represent three seasons... shirtsleeve temps at
0200 and daylight with beginning rain... temps started to plummet... high speed blustery winds
moved in... then thunder and lightening... then a very heavy snow storm with thunder, lightening
and snow blowing horizontally for a couple hours... then no wind, complete clearing and bright
sunshine... we have a saying around here, "If you don't like the weather, wait five minutes, it
will change."... and that certainly was one of those days... When the sun came out so brightly
I heard this clattering sound on the side of my house by my office. It was such a different
sound that I went out to investigate the source... it was ice measuring about one by three inches
and a quarter inch thick hitting the house as it was falling out of a tree close by. It was melting
so fast that it disappeared very quickly.
Much time spent counseling individuals... in person, by telephone and e-mail...
Much time spent on Chaplain Program reorganization...
Much prayer and concern over law enforcement killings, Mounties in Canada plus a Judge,
Court Stenographer, Sheriff Deputy and a Customs Agent in Atlanta... and these happenings
always bring terrible questions to mind. Often the full story brings agitation and irritation at
the systems and the people who let and/or cause these things to happen... plus concerns
over survivors and loved ones...
Military cost of lives in Iraq and other places plus the anguish each death causes in many
people and many locations...
The need to juggle and balance many demands that are clambering to be met... denying one
obligation of time and duty in order to meet another...
Time in meditation... thinking through things that have to be clarified...
Answering page calls in the middle of late night sleep time...
Prioritizing those things that just must be done but cannot all be done at the same time...
Answering constant demands of telephone calls and e-mail messages...
Keeping watch over a forty three year old disabled daughter who wants to do for me but who
often cannot do for herself and is classified as medically terminal...
Having to respond to my Chief and submit my letter of request for retirement from law
enforcement here as a Police Officer... and that process brings about other things that must
be learned and dealt with... (BUT I WILL CONTINUE WORKING IN AND WITH THE CHAPLAIN
PROGRAM AS ADMINISTRATOR/DIRECTOR AND SENIOR CHAPLAIN)...
Lots of people joke about a preacher's job being so slack... "Must be a great job... he only has to
work for an hour or two on Sunday. I would like for one of those people to follow me around for a
while. Many would wear out just trying to keep up my pace even if they did nothing other than follow
everything that I am doing. I MUST KEEP TWO GOALS CONSTANTLY IN MIND... What needs to
be done NOW... AND are you taking proper care for you so you can continue this pace?
I just finished a month where each of three weeks were in excess of eighty hours and the other
over sixty five hours of work just in chaplain duty. Add a church and it's duties plus two part time
businesses... Yet in all this production time I make sure that I find time to relax, rest and
occasionally I check my blood pressure and practice stress management techniques to keep it
where it belongs. I have learned how to do this so well that this week was the first week in a very,
very long time that my blood pressure registered good the very first time without applying a
relaxation technique and rechecking it several times. My pulse rate was so low that when I shared
the good report with a friend who used to help me keep track of my blood pressure that the response
was, "If I did not know you and understand how you care for yourself, I would be concerned about the
low pulse rate."
Why am I writing all these details today? It is to illustrate to each one who reads this message that
you can be a very busy person and still provide for your own care, health and welfare. YES YOU
CAN DO IT TOO!!!... BUT YOU HAVE TO WANT IT, LEARN HOW TO DO IT... AND THEN
PRACTICE. IF YOU WANT TO DO ANYTHING WELL YOU HAVE TO LEARN AND PRACTICE...
NO MATTER WHAT IT IS! TRAIN... TRAIN... TRAIN... PRACTICE... PRACTICE... PRACTICE.
NOW... THAT DOES NOT JUST APPLY TO YOUR JOB OR PROFESSION... THAT APPLIES TO
ALL HUMAN ACTIVITY. EVEN THINGS WE DO FROM INSTINCT CAN BE MORE FINELY
HONED TO A LEVEL THAT CAN SURPRISE EVEN OURSELVES.
Methods of eating require some level of manners or we can be offensive to others eating in our
presence... yet eating is something we do by responding to the instinct of hunger... unless we live
to eat rather than eating to live... then we must deal with another overload aspect... OVER WEIGHT
AND HEALTH. We must learn what is the best fuel for our bodies... how much it needs in order to
function well... and learn how to do "push aways"... PUSH AWAY FROM THE TABLE WHEN YOU
HAVE HAD ENOUGH... PUSH AWAY THE PLATE OR CONTAINER WHEN YOU HAVE
CONSUMED ENOUGH... FOLD UP THE BAG OR CLOSE THE CAN WHEN YOU HAVE HAD
ENOUGH.
Sexual activity comes by instinct when aroused... but when engaged in by two people who learn
all they can about each other and commit to each other it can and does become something so
beautiful to experience as to be indescribable to those who have never experienced it to the same
level. The wise person finds that if you communicate with and are concerned with pleasing your
partner that you in turn will be blessed with ecstatic pleasure.
Walking and running come naturally to most of us... and we run from danger by instinct... BUT
THE PEACE KEEPER SELDOM RUNS AWAY... AND INSTEAD RUNS TOWARD THE DANGER.
If we are going to deny the basic instinct of self preservation WE HAD BETTER LEARN HOW TO
RECOGNIZE AND HANDLE THE AFFECTS UPON THE HUMAN ORGANISM AND HOW TO
COUNTERACT OR REMOVE THOSE AFFECTS.
We cannot be totally self serving and do well. We cannot be totally serving other people and not
ourselves at all and do well. We must learn balance in all things. TOO MUCH OF ANYTHING
CAN BE DESTRUCTIVE. I SPEAK FROM EXPERIENCE AND PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE...
MY WORDS HERE COULD HELP YOU... OR CAN BE AVOIDED BY YOU AND YOU CAN
LEARN YOUR OWN LESSONS THE HARD WAY.
My daddy was tough and strict like a drill instructor. He had a saying that I learned to comply
with in relation to him very early in my life, "HE WHO WILL NOT LEARN HAS TO FEEL."... and
he knew just where to apply the feeling aspect if I did not follow directions. I seldom had to be
correct by him more than once for any ONE thing. He applied the feeling too thoroughly and
effectively to want a repeat.
MY GOAL IN ALL MESSAGES THAT I SEND TO YOU IS ALWAYS THE SAME GOAL.
PRAISE YOU AND LET YOU KNOW THAT SOMEONE KNOWS HOW VALUABLE AND
PRECIOUS YOU ARE TO OUR WAY OF LIFE... OUR WAY OF LIFE WOULD NOT/COULD NOT
EXIST AS WE KNOW IT WITHOUT YOU... ALL OF YOU AND EACH OF YOU... AND DO ANY
THING I CAN TO SEE TO YOUR SURVIVAL AND LONGEVITY. MY COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF
AND I ARE ETERNALLY GRATEFUL TO YOU AND FOR YOU... AND WE WANT YOU TO LIVE
WELL, LIVE LONG AND PROSPER.
BE CAREFUL OUT THERE... BE ALERT, WATCHFUL, SUSPICIOUS AND WARY. TAKE
GREAT CARE OF YOUR WHOLE BEING, PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL AND SPIRITUAL. YOU
CANNOT HAVE FULL LIFE IF ANY PART OF YOUR LIFE IS ANEMIC. ASK AND YOU SHALL
RECEIVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN WHAT YOU NEED... AND THEN YOU MUST LEARN
HOW TO APPLY IT.
KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT AND DON'T ASK AND YOU WILL GO WITHOUT WHAT YOU NEED
TO LEARN AND APPLY AND ALWAYS BE FIGHTING JUST TO EXIST.
"VICTORIOUS WARRIORS WIN FIRST...
(TRAINING MIND, BODY AND SPIRIT)
AND THEN GO TO WAR,
WHILE DEFEATED WARRIORS GO TO WAR FIRST...
AND THEN SEEK TO WIN." Sun tzu
ONLY LIVE PEACE KEEPERS SEE THE VICTORY!!!
WITH THE DEEPEST OF APPRECIATION AND RESPECT...
BE BLESSED (A CONDITION TO BE ENVIED)...
BE SUCCESSFUL... BE SAFE...
