Turkey Vows No Tolerance of Kurd Militants

Turkey vowed Friday to offer no tolerance for Kurdish militants despite concern over actions of its own security forces after a convicted rebel was allegedly targeted in a grenade attack earlier this month. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan presided at a security meeting of Cabinet ministers and military commanders to discuss the Nov. 9 attack on a book shop in the mainly Kurdish town of Semdinli, which killed one person but not its apparent target.

Perspective:
Use of Force and High-Intensity Tactical Police Flashlights
Policy Concerns

By R. Paul McCauley, Ph.D.
During a recent police shooting incident, an officer parked his cruiser facing the direction of oncoming traffic in a narrow alley and activated the red, white, and blue roof lights; high beams; and takedown lights. He then exited the vehicle, drew his weapon, and positioned himself in the darkness behind the car. The suspect ran toward the bright lights, passed them, and entered the unlit area. Upon recognizing that a policeman-or someone-waited in his path, the individual extended his arms forward. The officer fired.

BREAKING NEWS FOR THE PROFESSIONAL
Council Members Urge Calm Over 'Tookie' Williams Decisions
Four Los Angeles City Council members called for calm Friday as Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger considers whether to grant clemency to Crips co-founder and death row inmate Stanley "Tookie" Williams.
With less than four days to go before Williams' scheduled Tuesday execution, sporadic-yet-credible threats of civil unrest have prompted the council members and representatives from the city and county human relations commissions to ask religious leaders to emphasize a message of peace during weekend services.

Pentagon Intelligence Agency Gathers Domestic Intelligence
Day after day, reports of suspicious activity filed from military bases and other defense installations throughout the United States flow into the Counterintelligence Field Activity, or CIFA, a three-year-old Pentagon agency whose size and budget remain classified, the WASHINGTON POST is planning to report on Sunday, newsroom sources tell DRUDGE.
The Talon reports, as they are called, are based on information from civilians and military personnel who stumble across people or information they think might be part of a terrorist plot or threat against defense facilities at home or abroad.

Israel readies forces for strike on nuclear Iran
ISRAEL'S armed forces have been ordered by Ariel Sharon, the prime minister, to be ready by the end of March for possible strikes on secret uranium enrichment sites in Iran, military sources have revealed.
The order came after Israeli intelligence warned the government that Iran was operating enrichment facilities, believed to be small and concealed in civilian locations.

Military's Information War Is Vast and Often Secretive
The media center in Fayetteville, N.C., would be the envy of any global communications company. In state of the art studios, producers prepare the daily mix of music and news for the group's radio stations or spots for friendly television outlets. Writers putting out newspapers and magazines in Baghdad and Kabul converse via teleconferences. Mobile trailers with high-tech gear are parked outside, ready for the next crisis.
The center is not part of a news organization, but a military operation, and those writers and producers are soldiers. The 1,200-strong psychological operations unit based at Fort Bragg turns out what its officers call "truthful messages" to support the United States government's objectives, though its commander acknowledges that those stories are one-sided and their American sponsorship is hidden.

    FRANKS REVIEW

    Service Equipment Review:

    SureFire X200 + Accessory Rail

More than a year ago I did a review of the SureFire X200 LED pistol-mounted light. More recently, I spoke with a representative from SureFire to discuss the best way to mount such a light on my Springfield Armory 1911, because the pistol doesn't have built in rails. My question was, "Which after-market light adaptor works best?" The answer was, "SureFire's." I didn't even know SureFire made an accessory rail. Live and learn.

Within a couple of weeks I had both a new X200 and an Accessory Rail to test on my SA1911. Thankfully, range time was soon available and I was able to try out the mating of the three: pistol, rail and light. This review will cover what I learned and how the system functioned.

    Recreational Equipment Review:

    Cold Steel Recon Tanto

Cold Steel is well known for making excellent knives. The Recon Tanto, while primarily designed for, well... RECON work, is a strong knife with comfortable handling characteristics. It's relatively simple and straight forward. It's got a decent length sharp edge with a half-hilt and secure grip. The sheath is kydex with dual retention. There is a lanyard hole in the grip and a nice black powder coat finish. Mine has been through quite a bit of abuse and is still serviceable. Let's take a look at how this knife, originally designed with combat field usage in mind, serves as a general use field knife for camping, backpacking, etc.

    BROKENNESS... AND A FUTURE!

This has been a week of experiences... causing me to look back over a life time of
    experiences both private and professional.

I have witnessed brokenness in many forms... broken toys... broken vehicles...
broken marriages... broken bodies... broken careers... broken people...
broken dreams... personal brokenness.  When the product you deal with through out
all of your professional career is people in crisis... you see much of the things I have
listed... sometimes far too much.   When you live long enough to retire and have
always dealt with people you can be drawn to the work of fixing or mending broken
lives (by the help of the Commander-in-Chief), broken situations and broken things.

Numerous experiences in just this week alone have revealed things, people and
lives experiencing brokenness and in need of mending or healing... Then the
morning paper is filled with photos of broken military transport vehicles that have
been broken in attacks in Iraq... vehicles broken along with their contents and their
passengers.  What details were not visible in the photos were described in the
