**FROM THE EDITOR:**
Good Morning,

Henry A. Crumpton
Confirmation Hearing for Coordinator for Counterterrorism, With the Rank and Status of Ambassador at Large, Senate Foreign Relations Committee

July 14, 2005

Mister Chairman and distinguished Members of the Committee, thank you for this opportunity to offer a statement. I am honored to appear before you, and I welcome not only your questions but also your counsel, as we consider one of the paramount national security concerns of our time: international terrorism.

Warren County Georgia, where I was raised, is a long way from Capitol Hill. My journey here depended upon the support of a loving family, good friends, and generous colleagues. So, today I am especially proud to be accompanied by my father, Dan Crumpton, and my spouse, Cynthia Cheng Crumpton, the epitome of strength and courage, who more than 20 years ago joined me in a grand adventure, that along the way brought us three wonderful sons. Two of our sons, Sam and Lucas are also here.

I thank them, and all those who have helped me.

UK and Turkey set against terror

Submitted by our friends at The Terrorism Research Center (TRC) http://www.terrorism.com
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his UK counterpart Tony Blair have had talks in London on security, Cyprus and EU bid. Both leaders said they would work together against terrorism, after recent attacks in Turkey and the UK http://www.terrorism.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=WarReports&file=index&view=537

The Dread Pirate Bin Laden
How thinking of terrorists as pirates can help win the war on terror.

By Douglas R. Burgess Jr.
INTERNATIONAL LAW LACKS A DEFINITION FOR TERRORISM as a crime. According to Secretary General Kofi Annan, this lack has hampered "the moral authority of the United Nations and its strength in condemning" the scourge.

But attempts to provide a definition have failed because of terrorists' strangely hybrid status in the law. They are neither ordinary criminals nor recognized state actors, so there is almost no international or domestic law dealing with them. This gives an out to countries that harbor terrorists and declare them "freedom fighters." It also lets the United States flout its own constitutional safeguards by holding suspects captive indefinitely at Guantánamo Bay. The overall situation is, in a word, anarchic.

"PIE-ING" AND SHOOTING
by Yudi Wong, Firearms Instructor

Nearly everyone in the military, law enforcement and shooting community knows how to "pie" a doorway, window, corner or room. For the benefit of those who are reading this, but do not know what "pie-ing" is, I'll explain. Pie-ing, or slicing the pie, is a method of using angles to see around a barrier while presenting the smallest possible target to anyone who may be on the other side. To "pie" a room, for example, you position yourself by the door or opening in a way that allows you to peek into the room, use the door jam or corner for cover, and expose the least amount of your body to anyone who may be inside. Reposition your feet, and continually view larger and larger "slices" of the room until you are able to see as much of the room as you can without actually making entry. In terms of tactics, slicing the pie is pretty basic stuff.

Why the U.S. Navy is Creating a New Marine Corps

The U.S. Navy feels it is in need of more "soldiers of the sea." But since the U.S. Navy has lost control of the U.S. Marine Corps, the navy is assembling a new force of sailors serving as naval infantry. This is not really new. For example, the toughest troops in the Navy Department are not the marines, but the sailors who belong to the SEALs, an organization formed in the 1960s. But the process of regenerating the American naval infantry is accelerating. There was a time, not too long ago, when the marines where what marines had always been, soldiers who belonged to the navy and served on ships. But since World War II, the U.S. Marine Corps have developed into a truly separate force, no longer available to the navy.

U.S.: Iraq operations reducing insurgency
Despite recent deadly attacks, military insists it is making progress

The U.S. military defended its operations in western Iraq, insisting it is reducing insurgent attacks despite the deaths of 14 Marines in a huge bombing and four U.S. service members killed in action.
Iraq's prime minister sought to assure his demoralized public on Thursday that the government is on top of the security situation, announcing a new plan for restoring order and declaring "we are in a state of war."

Fundamentally, we're useful idiots
As the rest of Europe acts, extreme Islamists take advantage of British naivety ELEMENTS WITHIN the British establishment were notoriously sympathetic to Hitler. Today the Islamists enjoy similar support. In the 1930s it was Edward VIII, aristocrats and the Daily Mail; this time it is left-wing activists, The Guardian and sections of the BBC. They may not want a global theocracy, but they are like the West's apologists for the Soviet Union - useful idiots.
Islamic radicals, like Hitler, cultivate support by nurturing grievances against others. Islamists, like Hitler, scapegoat Jews for their problems and want to destroy them. Islamists, like Hitler, decree that the punishment for homosexuality is death. Hitler divided the world into Aryans and subhuman non-Aryans, while Islamists divide the world into Muslims and sub-human infidels. Nazis aimed for their Thousand-Year Reich, while Islamists aim for their eternal Caliphate. The Nazi party used terror to achieve power, and from London to Amsterdam, Bali to New York, Egypt to Turkey, Islamists are trying to do the same.

International Police Chiefs Group Issues New Shoot-To-Kill Guidelines for Confronting Suicide Bombers, Newspaper Reports
An international organization representing the heads of police departments across the world has issued new guidelines recommending that officers who confront a suicide bomber should shoot the suspect in the head, the Washington Post reported.
The recommendations by the International Association of Chiefs of Police take a more aggressive posture than typical lethal-force guidelines for police departments, the newspaper reported on its Web Site late Wednesday. It said the guidelines were published July 8 - before the London police, acting on a similar policy, on July 22 fatally shot a Brazilian electrician in the head because they mistook him for a suicide bomber.

FRANKS REVIEW

Tactical Equipment Review:

Extrema Ratio - Col Moschin Combat Knife

When I first saw the name of this blade, I thought it was "Col." as in the abbreviation for Colonel. Not so. Apparently, "Col" is an Italian term that means "hill" (or something similar). The site, Col Moschin, is historically significant in Italy, much as we Americans look at Iwo Jima or the Beaches at Normandy. They are places where our troops have proven themselves defenders of freedom against the worst odds. Col Moschin holds a similar value to Italian soldiers.

The Col Moschin knife was specifically designed and developed for the 9th Reggimento D'Assalto Paracadutisti, nicknamed the "Col Moschin" unit and considered the elite of the Folgore brigade. What does all that mean in English? As much as I had to look it up (and me with an Italian last name) it's the 9th Parachute Assault Regiment. Now consider this: If someone was asked to design a knife for the 82nd or 101st Airborne, we'd expect it to be one heck of a knife wouldn't we? Well, the Col Moschin is. Let's take a look.

Walther P22 - A Fun Plinker

When I was at a local gun show almost a year ago now I was looking for a handgun that was small enough I could use it to teach my seven year old proper shooting skills. A .22 caliber weapon was a given, and I felt a semi-automatic might be better than a revolver given grip sizes and angles. I came across a Walther P22 and had to take a second look.

I have previous experience with the Walther P99 and its Smith & Wesson counterparts, the SW99 (and the .45ACP version, SW45). As I was used to the size of those combat caliber handguns, the sight of such a down-sized Walther brought a smile to my face. It looked like it would fit my son perfectly. Preliminary handling by him at that time supported by belief, so we bought it and took it home.

CHAPLAINS CORNER
TO AND FOR PEACE KEEPERS OF THE MILITARY AND ALL LAW ENFORCEMENT
AT ALL LEVELS AND ALL OF THOSE IN THEIR SUPPORT SYSTEMS AND ALL
WHO CARE ABOUT THEM AND THEIR WELFARE.

LIFE IS ARBITRARY AND CANNOT BE AVOIDED..OUR COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF IS MERCIFUL TO US, HE MAKES PROVISION WHEN WE REQUEST IT AS WE ARE INSTRUCTED TO DO!

THE LAW "Thy word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path." Psalm 119:105 (NAS) You have to KNOW the law in order to enforce it. You can't just go out there and make up your own statutes as you go along! There is a system of already determined laws in place that guide your decisions as you enforce the law. Let's look at spiritual things from a similar perspective. If you believe in God, then you believe that what God says is LAW (spiritual law). Just as you cannot enforce the laws of our land without knowledge of what they are, you cannot implement the laws of God in your life if you don't know what they are. So you need to spend time finding out what God says! The Bible contains God's words, His guidelines for our lives. It is meant to be referred to time and time again so that we can obtain answers and guidance in our everyday lives! We would be foolish to think we can all just make up our own rules for life without any consideration given to God or others! Our Creator has already set up the guidelines that will bring us the best outcomes! Just as the laws of the land are intended to maintain peace and order, and to ensure freedom and happiness for citizens, God designed His spiritual laws to bring peace, order, freedom and happiness to our lives! Get into the Bible and really get to KNOW what God has to say about your life!
