**FROM THE EDITOR:**

Good Morning,
More JOB OPPORTUNITIES:
On April 15, 2005 Blackwater Security Consulting (BSC) was awarded orders under a Blanket Purchase Agreement through the PCO-Contracting Activity in Baghdad and will begin security operations on May 1, 2005 at the following locations: Mosul, Kirkuk, Tikrit, Ramadi and Baqubah. Blackwater will conduct a safe and seamless transition with one of our preferences being not to cause undue hardship for the current security professionals manning those sites, if that can be done without degrading the mission.

Blackwater plans to offer to a significant number of the current security professionals (independent contractors) continuing work at those sites under a BSC IC agreement. Blackwater has vetted and trained individuals available to fill all the positions and will do so if a timely commitment is not made by current security professionals. BSC will not be extending this offer to K-9 handler teams. Our K-9's and handlers have been identified and are being moved into theater at this time. Current handlers that are qualified for PSS or Static Security may apply for those positions and transition on site.

Due to the need for a rapid and robust rotation of personnel and equipment, it will be necessary for security personnel to commit to their intent within 48 hours (17 April 2005, 1200 EST). What is needed from incumbent security personnel is a one page resume with contact information and with an acknowledgment that they want to continue working at those sites.

If you are not currently providing security at those sites but have in the past or would like to perform other work for Blackwater Security Consulting please indicate that in your response. Please provide the information to Blackwater Security Consulting via email at bscmail@blackwaterusa.com

A Patriotic Treatise

By: Frank Borelli, 21 March 2005
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America
and to the Republic for which it stands.
One nation Under God, Indivisible,
With Liberty and Justice for all."

Yep; That's our Pledge of Allegiance. It seems not a complicated thing, but here lately there has been a great deal of argument about whether two words out of thirty-one are unconstitutional. That question, and some recent experiences I've had, inspired me to do some research and type this out. Please note as you read this that I am not preaching; I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything. I was curious, did some research to find some answers, and wrote it out to keep track of it in my own mind. What resulted was more than I expected when I started.

I've been saying the Pledge of Allegiance for as long as I can remember. When I was a boy, every school day started out with the Pledge of Allegiance. The whole school said it in unison as it was said over the intercom system. The Principal, or some other specified person, lead the Pledge. It was considered and honor, and quite often students were rewarded by leading the Pledge. Heck, it was about the only time that going to the Principal's office was a good thing. It was something to be proud of. When I was a Cub Scout the flag ceremony was something we did regularly, and again, leading the Pledge was something we were proud to do. http://www.borelliconsulting.com/articles/patriotictreatise.htm

Lessons Learned: Infantry Squad Tactics in Military Operations in Urban Terrain During Operation Phantom Fury in Fallujah, Iraq

Introduction. Historically speaking, military operations in urban terrain (MOUT) have created casualty figures that are extraordinary compared to similar operations conducted in different types of environments. The casualties in MOUT present a significant challenge to small unit leaders. Casualties hit Marine infantry squads and fire teams extremely hard because generally speaking they were already under the table of organization (T/O) standards. Some squads in 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines (3/5) commenced the assault on the Jolan with only six Marines. It is the small unit leaders' duty to accomplish the mission with the least amount of casualties possible. In order for small unit leaders to complete the above task they need tactics and techniques that will prevent casualties.

The Philippine military said on Monday that terrorist activities in Mindanao have reached the alarming level, and that "lack of resources" is preventing the military from dealing with the terrorists decisively.
Military spokesman Brig. Gen. Jose Angel Hondrado made the declaration a day after US embassy charge d'affaires Joseph Mussomeli raised the possibility of Mindanao becoming the next Afghanistan due to continued presence of terrorists.

Jihad Express
For Islamic militants in Europe, Iraq far outshines Afghanistan as an urban-terrorism training ground

The most fanciful park in Paris, and one of the least known, set among the city's poorest immigrant neighborhoods, is the Buttes Chaumont. A craggy mountain rises out of a taciturn lake, and a narrow path leads across what's called the "Bridge of Suicides." Muslim boys trained there last year for holy war in Iraq. Several were in their teens, born and raised in France, and many knew nothing more about guns and bombs than what they'd seen in movies. Some spoke no Arabic. But they heard the call to jihad that was raised by radical Islamist preachers, and they answered it. One died in Fallujah. Three are known to be imprisoned in Iraq, at least one of them in Abu Ghraib. Three others are jailed in France. One blew himself up in an attack on the road to Baghdad airport. http://msnbc.msn.com/id/7169941/site/newsweek

The government said it was trying to resolve the standoff peacefully, while Shiite lawmakers called for action to stop "terrorist groups from promoting sectarian violence."

FRANKS REVIEW

Glock 17C 9mm

By: Frank Borelli, 18 April 2005
Those of you who have read my reviews for any period of time know that I prefer two handguns: Government Model 1911 .45ACP pistols, and just about anything Glock. Now I have a confession to make: for all the time I've been a Glock fan - and I've been carrying one off-duty for better than ten years now, I've always avoided the Glock Model 17. Why? Because I was narrow minded. That's being blunt. In the late 1980s when the agency I was with began investigating high-capacity 9mm pistols to find a new duty weapon was when I first handled a Glock 17. At that time I thought highly of some other manufacturers' weapons and I hadn't given the Glock much consideration. When I did, my very first reaction was, "Too blocky; feels funny."

Some years later I was sent to Glock armorer's school and actually became educated (somewhat) about Glocks. Across that couple of years I'd also been exposed to veteran officers / firearms instructors who actually liked the pistols and encouraged me to check them out. I took their advice and (obviously) became a Glock fan. But for some reason, my appreciation for the weapon just never extended to the Model 17. In the back of my mind I still carried that original distaste for it that I'd gained in the late '80s. Blackwater will cure any open-minded individual of a dislike for the Glock Model 17 - as it did mine.
