Law Enforcement and the Holocaust Law
enforcement agencies in the Washington, D.C.,
metropolitan area recently have begun a training
program drawing upon the U.S. Holocaust Memorial
Museum as a resource to explore a variety of issues
relevant to law enforcement today. (1) This program,
cosponsored by the Anti-Defamation League, has
provided law enforcement officers with a unique
opportunity to witness the dangers and horrors that
can occur when law enforcement abdicates its role as
a protector of citizens' liberties and rights and,
ultimately, becomes a tool of a government involved in
a systematic genocidal program. As a result of the
success of this program, the museum also has
instituted other educational programs for law
enforcement officers, such as traveling exhibits from
the museum that move to various cities within the
United States.

Fine Tuning Your News Briefing.(law enforcement
agency media relations). Today's modern law
enforcement agency rivals nearly any Fortune 500
corporation in complexity, their use of technology, and
especially their value to the community. As with any
large corporation, law enforcement agencies quickly
can become the focus of media attention around the
world when a crisis or major event occurs. Today, the
public recognizes that law enforcement activities
impact more than just the crime rate--they can affect
citizens' health and social welfare and impact
environmental and economic issues as well. Most law
enforcement executives recognize that they no longer
have a choice whether they deal with the media.
Because the media covers issues of public interest,
prudent managers should realize the importance of
proactively using the media as a tool to get their
department's message out to the community.

New York Police Training for
Catastrophic Terrorism The New York
Police Department, working with city health officials,
federal authorities and other agencies, has been
preparing for a possible attack with nuclear, biological
or chemical weapons, perhaps the most daunting threat
facing municipalities in a post-9/11 world.
Meeting in secret and conducting complex drills, the
department has brought together government agencies
in a broad effort for much of the last year. In doing so,
it has put together a program that some national
security and law enforcement officials describe as
unrivaled among American cities.

SureFire M500 Series of Lights
SureFire makes the best flashlights for military and law
enforcement operators today. Other major
manufacturers, and some really innovative new comers,
are playing the catch up game, but SureFire has been
doing it right from the beginning and only continues to
make improvements as they go. A product of
theirs that is seeing a lot of use in the conflict arena is
the M500 Weapon Light series.
