The Blackwater Academy Experience
The Blackwater Training Academy is an intense eight
week academy which includes training in firearms, CQB,
driving, EP, ground fighting, and physical security.
Successful Graduates will be offered the opportunity to
accept Independent Contractor assignemnts from
Blackwater USA as operatives in its security consulting
arena.
Applicants must agree to an exclusive services
contract with Blackwater following graduation provided
that a minimum amount of work is provided by
Blackwater.
Applicants must, at a minimum, have completed a
four year tour of duty in the Armed Forces or its
equivalent as determined by the admissions review
board.
Only those who were honorably discharged need
apply. A copy of the applicant's DD-214 is required.
Applicants will be required to pass a physical
fitness test prior to admission. and provide evidence of
a recent physical and a physicians clearance to
undertake the rigors of academy training. Drug testing
is required.
Male applicants may not exceed 20% body fat and
female applicants may not exceed 22% body fat on day
one. Blackwater will not discriminate on the basis of
sex, origin, religious affiliation, etc.
Applicants must meet eligibility requirements for a
top secret security clearance.
Admission decisions are at the sole discretion of
Blackwater. Successful completion of Academy is not
guaranteed and Blackwater may discharge failing
students in its sole discretion.
Training will be physically and mentally demanding and
will include, among other things, two weeks living and
working in field conditions. The cost of the training can
be financed 100% through Blackwater USA and
automatically repaid by direct reduction of pay from the
graduate's first two deployments. Detailed information

THIS WEEK I LOOKED INTO THE FACE
OF OUR FUTURE...
when thirty new recruits became officers and
graduated from our Police
Academy. This old warrior is thankful for them... but, O
how I would
like to spend time with each one in a one on one
situation out there on
the streets... and some time to help them get
acclimated to the work.
They just finished 25 weeks of instructors giving them
information and
tests... plus the Department of Criminal Justice
Services has now
instituted a test all academy graduates must pass in
addition to the
academy requirements. The road to get out to the
streets gets longer and
harder... and in today's time it seems we have fewer
and fewer interested
applicants. Often they can make more money
elsewhere. Our department
received 600 applications for the job... and only 36
were qualified...

Something Different: ASLET 2004
I had the benefit, this past week, of attending the
ASLET (American Society for Law Enforcement
Training) Conference held in St. Louis. In
addition to all of the training programs that were
available to attendees, the Conference included a two-
day expo. Seventy-four exhibitors set up their
displays and it was quite a pleasure to visit with each
of them. Blackwater was, of course, on hand
and providing information about their facilities to
include the upcoming World SWAT Challenge. In
this week's review I wanted to list some of the neat
products that are soon to be forth-coming (can you
say SHOT Show?) from various companies. If I
